Do more than talk about the economy: take action instead

Tax Day. Have you heard about the tea parties that are taking place throughout the US? While I certainly commend the promoters for getting the word out, I have to wonder if anger and outrage is a good thing for our economy right now.

Of course the idea hails back to the colonial days when taxation without representation forced the Massachusetts colonists to dump tea from ships into the Boston Harbor. It became a rallying point of unison for our nation to move forward to independence. Today, however, the idea sort of comes off as partisan. When first suggested by former GOP candidate Ron Paul, it was against then President Bush and not all that well received by the party. Now the GOP has set up a website to help the movement achieve maximum momentum. It's a passive way to assist a demonstration that may or may not garner as much actual participation as it does media attention. According to CBS News, 56 percent of those surveyed approved of President Obama's handling of the economy and 74 percent approved of higher taxes for the rich.

Since public opinion remains staunchly behind our new president, why don't we lend ourselves to more positive pursuits than demonstrations about the economy? Take action and work hard. If you have lost your job due to the situation, volunteer harder. We already have indications that the economy has shifted. Home sales are up. Foreclosures are down. Housing affordability is up. Interest rates are down. If we give it a chance and aren't afraid to invest and commit, the housing industry could lead the way to full recovery. I am committed to action. Are you?
